![]() This will set the notes in the right spots relative to the scale, but keep a lot of the movement and wavering within each note, and retain the natural aspects of the vocal. The way I get around this is to turn the Centre and Transition knobs to 100%, and have the Variation knob to around 2 or 3 o’clock. Turning the Variation down to zero causes Newtone to look at all the small details between notes (sibilants, plosives, breaths, etc) and flatten them in an attempt to tie them to a pitch. This is 100% why vocals come out sounding shuddery and squashed. It’s worth noting this more so applies to vocals that you want to sound natural, but still corrected (as opposed to heavy auto-tune as an effect). I’ve experienced the same for ages, but I’ve figured out a few things that will help get better quality, more natural sounding results.
